Friday!!

Posted by Blythe on November 21, 2008 @ 8:57 pm

Clearly :) There is a new layout. I was originally going to use this for a portfolio that I was going to put on the server provided to me by school, but I wanted to get rid of that old one sooooooooo bad! So I’ll come up with something else a lot cooler!

This week was great. Well, it was real stressful in the beginning, but I got through it. I had this midterm I was all freaking out over. There’s two midterms and a final, and I got a D on the first midterm. So I studied my freaking ass off over this second midterm, and took it, and half of them I had to guess on! I did educated guesses, but I still wasn’t too sure. Then I looked online, and he had posted up the results, and said he was going to grade it on a curve too. And get this. I was the max of the curve :D I got an A+!!! I am absolutely stoked!

So to celebrate, I have been slacking off the rest of the week. I basically go to school, go to work, come home, play games, worked on the website. And also with the curve, the first grade gets pushed up to a C-. So I now have a B even in the class, and that B is 60% of my grade. I need to do my best on the final in order to get a good grade out of the three. But at least there is a lot of hope.

I registered for classes. I would also like to mention I registered a day late this time. I had prerequisite forms for 2 of my classes, and the other 2 I know nobody is going to be too excited to take. I am going to die, without a doubt. I have people telling me I need to talk to one of the art teachers so I can drop a class. I have 3 art classes, 116, 119, and 220; 3D-design, some Web Design class, and Typography. And as if that wasn’t enough, I am also taking CS 311 because I don’t want to put this off over a minor. I have not done Java in 2 years, so I’m scared poopless. I know a guy in the class though who is in the same boat, except he has a kid too. He was in Vietnam. But we’ll probably be code-buddies the next term.

And finally, highlight of my week, I got introduced to AJAX. This is so fucking cool!! I am going to code my portfolio in AJAX, just so I can use the things I know. I made this using part AJAX and part PHP, it leaves out the DOM part though. It was more of an experiment and I know I can do sooo many things with this it’s not even funny. I have found a new passion :)

Here Kitty, Kitty..

Posted by Blythe on November 17, 2008 @ 1:09 am

This week, as usual, has been extremely busy. I worked every chance I got. It was fun. I love having a job that is actually fun and get to play around with code for hours at a time. But it got a little harder this week. I got my number of tables increased from one to three. I also got all of my art projects done for now. Now I have two massive finals I have to do for that class, and by massive, I mean, I have to reconstruct a painting for each class, one of them I actually have to do two paintings and have a biography/presentation ready for my artist. Due in three weeks, on top of my normal work.

And then there’s my cat, in the whole mix of things. On Thursday morning, before I went to work, everything was normal, he was acting like his normal self, playing, demanding food, and demanding to be let out. When I left for school, he was lying in bed. I went to work most of the day, got assigned that project, grabbed lunch, went and visited Porcia, went back to work, and came back home and he was still lying in bed. He would not get up, eat, drink, or use his litter box. I was worried but I did not know what to do. So I let him just lie in bed for another day. Then on Saturday I called my parents, a bit worried now that he had not gotten up, gone to the bathroom, or anything in two days. I made him get up and tried to feed him some food, but he refused. I don’t know what was wrong because I told my parents, we all got real worried, were planning how we were going to pay for the vet bill, then at 5 in the morning last night, he decided he wanted food and he wanted it out. He wanted outside. He wanted to play. He just suddenly got better, and it was so weird. :(

I also had another weird thing happen. Ants. Lots of them. But they are not in my kitchen or my cabinet or even my bedroom. They are in my bathroom. And I have no idea … What? Why?? Why are they in the bathroom there is nothing in the bathroom for them to eat. So when I called my parents about the cat, I also brought that up. They came over today to bring some ant spray and such, we put some in the bathroom, outside, and the ant population has been declining rapidly. I am thrilled. It is gross and so weird. Animals make no sense to me. There’s a whole freaking kitchen full of food! Lets go in the bathroom instead!!!

I did an awesome very Tina-like thing with my debit card as well. I was hanging out with a friend at the gas station and I wanted some juice. So I rang it up and pulled out my debit card and told them if they can guess the pin, then I will purchase this. Apparently that was a bad idea. They guessed my pin like four or five times and it declined it. I tried to run the card again, and it declined it again. So I ran to my car and gathered up some dimes to pay for the juice, but I was worried my debit card would not work anymore. So I borrowed some money, went shopping, and decided to try to run it just for the hell of it. And it worked fine. So I was thankful. :) I would say I will probably never do that again…but I will for sure now that I know it will be okay!!

I am also getting really excited for Holland. I want to take lots of pictures this time of the old buildings, shops, and everything so that way I can remember it better. And I can’t wait to see Robert <3 I am also pleasantly thrilled with another thing I have learned. I thought the flight was eleven hours, apparently it’s like nine or something. So I’m feeling much better about that. I am going to bring lots of reading material, music, and nuts (I was told to stay awake better, stay away from coffee and eat protein. I need to stay up 25 hours in order to avoid jet lag, and I wish myself the best of luck. I have not been able to do such a thing since I was eight. I will hopefully pull through it :)

Graphic Design Minor Sucks.. Oh well :)

Posted by Blythe on November 8, 2008 @ 12:28 am

Today was a good day.

I woke up and went to the bank. I had like $120 left over from my aid, so I took out $80 to buy a parking sticker, so I don’t have to leave 30 minutes ahead of time for school anymore. I went and got some coffee and then went to my CS160 class. I was glad because normally there are these really annoying people who sit behind me, talk like they know everything, how stupid the class is, talk while the teacher is talking, and it pisses me off. They didn’t do that today. I was glad :)

After that I went to work, and I was still stuck on the same thing I had been for the past two days, and Michael wasn’t there, so I decided to stop starring at the screen and getting annoyed and went and talked to Broeg about my classes next term.
I was sad he said I would have to put CS off for a little bit because of my three art classes. This is why Graphic Design sucks. It’s the longest, most involved minor there could possibly be in the Art department! I can either take Data Structures II or a class called Internet that is actually in the Information Systems instead of Computer Science, but might be able to substitute one of my required upper division classes for the Information Systems focus. Due to time conflicts, I am being forced to take Data Structures II, and I am scared. Yeah. Maybe I have coded in PHP, SQL, Java, C++, C, PL/SQL, but that doesn’t mean that I feel ready to get graded on it. Plus I haven’t done the Java in 2 years! But I really have no choice. I need to take it to make my 12 credits.

After finding this out, I went back to work and Michael was there. He helped me. Turned out I was just passing the wrong variable to the list the entire time. I sat up a list to take in multiple variables, but it was only passing in the first one when I did it. He uncommented some of my code and it worked fine. It didn’t really matter anyway. I had to remake the table in the database, fill it up with values or else Oracle got pissed off at me, and rewrite the code, adding 5 more tables into the database, which is what I thought I would have to do to keep it practical and keep it from consuming tons of space and complicated picking-apart-strings functions. So I was a tad bummed about that, but I got it allll working now. I need to tidy up a bit of the code. For some reason, I decided to pass optional full character values from the form into variables that start out with character value of 0, and then send them to another form to change the values I did pass to 1, so I might as well just pass 1 in the first place D: duh! These were for if you selected multiple variables, it passes that variable, if you don’t, then it leaves it a 0. When printing it out, it then looks at the table in the database, if it has a 1, it prints out whatever that table name was, if it has a 0, prints out nothing. But I was a dork for spending another hour on unneeded code!

So I worked on that all day. I was trying to work as much as I could today. I only got 13 hours in for this week, instead of 20. Thankfully, I am working 7 hours at Staples, so that makes up for it, mostly. I then went home, cleaned up my dishes in the kitchen, and went shopping. I got a ton of food for only $30. I got some things to make sushi with, lots of mac and cheese (as usual), hot pockets, and I was looking at the pizza crust and decided to make an experimental vegetarian pizza, with pesto, garlic, artichoke hearts, and cauliflower and mushrooms. I then came home, made the pizza, which was splendid! Studied chapter 4 in my CS book for an hour, and decided to take a break. So I am just sitting here listening to music :)

A lot has happened lately, I haven’t even had time to look at this.

I am moved in entirely. My parents and I went and got my stuff from my apartment over the weekend and I have all my stuff in here. It’s still not all unpacked, I might not unpack it. If I haven’t needed something out of the box for two weeks, then I think I am good.

We had our first Technical Fund Committee. I learned some cool stuff, and also, the guy who employs me and the guy who works with me were both on the committee as well. That was neato. Apparently our internet that costs $5 a term is really $20 a term. That comes out of the fee, so essentially, we do pay for it, just if we don’t sign up for wireless, it goes towards someone elses service fee. So that comes out of that. Also I found out we take care of things that are useful to majority of students, like broken laptops, lab computers, lab stuff, etc. So that is very broad, some people are confused, but basically I figure if someone proposes something, we determine if it’s really helpful to majority students or not, and weather to pass it or not.

I have another midterm on Wednesday. I am nervous. It is only over three chapters, but there was a lot of information. I stayed up until 3:00 am yesterday studying it.

Work is so-so. I got my first project done way fast, my second one is taking a bit longer, because I can’t figure out how to use an array in PL/SQL (Arrays are usually tables, and I don’t get how to pass multiple values of the same thing from one varchar2 datatype into a table.) so I found a way around that. I’ll ask Michael later. I have had a bad past two days. I keep accidentally making infinite loops. Now I have to take that string, and every time there is a space, take that word and compare it to see if it is already there or not to update. I couldn’t figure out how to do that, so I tried to make my own procedure to do that, broke it all. I was bummed. This was the fourth time.

Other than that, not much else. Getting excited over Holland. I hope I do good in my CS class this term though, or else I’ll be nervous the entire time I am there xD I am also a tiny bit bummedc over next term. I have to take 3 art classes because this is the only term they are offered. Art isn’t even my major, so its like wtf? Lol. Whatever xP

Ubuntu!

Posted by Blythe on October 28, 2008 @ 1:49 am

This weekend has been moderately good, and I am so glad I am comming out of my anti-social, anti-school, depression phase that went on the past few weeks.

I stayed at home and decorated my new place :) I did not like it so much at first, probably because it was new place, lots of scary bugs, only half of my stuff was over here, but I am starting to like it more now. I got all of my useful things over here and decorated the walls. I lit some candles and it is starting to smell like my old place again instead of new paint. I also spent time playing Mario3 (Lol. Mom spent $600 on all of this Wii stuff and we play Mario3 on it) and doing my art and CS homework.

School has been a different story. I had to drop one of my CS classes. I was mega-bummed at first, but I am getting over it. I will have to take it again later. Maybe I can find it this summer or something. I had like two D’s and some B’s so far, so I need to focus more. I am excited though I get to take my first pre-graphic design class Winter term :) Also the Student Technical Fund Committee that I am a part of made their first meeting this Friday at 9:00am. It was supposed to be in the third week of school, and when I did not get an email, I was worried maybe they kicked me off xP Also my database job so far seems to be going okay. I finished the training. Michael made me a little nervous, but I’ll tackle the first project tomorrow. It is the best I can do.

Other than that, unfortunate news. My PC for some reason is only recognizing one of the cores on my dual-core processor. It could be a motherboard issue, but then I looked up my motherboard and got the very specific details on my processor and it was under the list of like 100 AMD processors that the motherboard will recognise. I tried to reset the BIOS, but I have no idea where the jumper things are. I personally think it is an OS issue. When the motherboard fried, we took out all of the parts, maybe something got screwed up. Lastly, hopefully the processor did not just fry and die out. I will miss it n___n I will miss playing UT and I can’t afford a new one just yet.

In the process of fixing it, I got sidetracked and decided to boot up the Linux partition where the internet did not work on. The wireless works fine, just not the Ethernet. So I fixed it all up and updated some times :) Installed a purdy new Appearance Theme and also got a neato background. Also the sound is real weird too. It works on the speakers but not the headphones. Sounds like some sort of PCI issue or something to that extent.

Linux

That is all :) Jya~

Pesto and Coffee!!

Posted by Blythe on October 18, 2008 @ 2:10 am

Hopefully this will be a quick post I want to go play Mario three :D

Yeah. I am eating fettuccine with Pesto and coffee with hazelnut. Is yum :)

This week has had massive up’s and downs, but so far the end is turning out great.

I was sleeping very little at the beginning, like four or five hours a night, I was stressed over school, and got a 19/42 on my homework (I had expected that when I picked it up a few days before, but sheesh it was still a real downer) so I was about ready to drop the class when the teacher said to wait three more weeks. There will be a midterm by then, I will have practiced the math more, and maybe it will improve. He says a lot of times in CS there are things you don’t understand, but if you relax and go on and think about it periodically, you suddenly get it. And he always talks about the student from Peru, and how she could not do CS at all, but she would try her best and come in with her homework going “Okay. I did this and this and this and this but I could not do this. I got stuck here” so he saw that she tried and helped her and she ended up getting a really good job because she could understand it so much better than the other people who did not ask for help :)

That was Monday.

Tuesday was excellent. I got the electric turned on at the other house, and the water guy came bye while we were away to turn the water on. We wanted him to call us but I guess he forgot. He said he turned it on and heard something running inside, so he shut it off. I went inside and the bathroom was completely flooded. He turned it back on and it was coming from underneath the sink, so we looked, and there were s u g a r a n t s ! ! ! swimming everywhere in it!!! It was so gross. They apparently made themselves a little home and backed it up and the pipe broke and blah!!
So my dad went out to get the stuff to fix that and I went to art. Art was hard this week because I basically have been going to school 8 - 5, work inbetween, then more work from 6 - 9 when I get off, come home at 10, and I still have art and CS homework to do. And when I say art, I mean it is going to be at least a good two hours painting or drawing. So that really sucked, but I got it all done. Then I went to work and apparently he found another pipe behind the wall that was broken too. So this is going to cost $80 or something altogether.

Thankfully I have that better job now, so I am not super worried anymore over finances. I love it so far. I get to use a dual monitor which is so awesome. It is kind of hard to get used to because I drag my mouse and I am used to it being at the end of the screen by the time I finish, but it’s only half way done. I love being able to browse the web and look at code at the same time though :)

Today was good too. I was surprised. I was going to quit Staples, but they were so nice about it. They said they would rather not have me quit, what can we do to help you out? So I am only working three hours tomorrow, I can study for school and this other job and still have some time off. Then I will work my five hours on Monday and he’ll talk to the GM about keeping me or not since I have this other job. So yay :) I am so happy most people in my experience don’t work with you. You say you don’t want to come in, Adios!!

Okay. Surprisingly, that only took seven minutes to type. I am off to play Mario :) Buhbyes!!

Another Job!!

Posted by Blythe on October 13, 2008 @ 10:31 pm

So my parents told me to find a job in town.

I asked my professor if he knew of any jobs, but he didn’t. So he mentioned it to Porcia who is the secretary for the CS department. She knew a guy named Michael who had database stuff he needed done. I went and talked to him and he showed me some of the code and an example and asked me to set up PHP and MySQL on my laptop and show him what I can do.

I had PHP installed already and Apache, so I just updated it and got MySQL installed. I used command line to get some databases and tables set up, and made some simple scripts (add database, delete database, drop table, add table, etc.) and showed him it. Even though it was incomplete, he said it was good enough and that is what I would be doing except it will be in Oracle.

So it starts off $8.50 an hour and goes up depending on skill if I am hired on as a perm. So it’s worth a shot plus it is exactly what I’ll be doing in industry, so yay.

Sorry for ignoring everyone so much! This was my weekend:

Saturday: Get up, go to work for 8 hours, come home, play Mario, eat dinner, Alicia came over, we passed out at midnight.

Sunday: Get up at 9, Alicia drove me to go get my car, go get some feminine things at the store, get some gas, come home and eat lunch, go to work for 6 hours, come home, make dinner, play a half hour of Mario, work on my CS271 homework, work on my MySQL for the job I just got, go to bed at 3:00am.

Today: Get up at 8:00am, ready to pass out, shower, get some coffee, go to CS271, go to CS160, go back home to get my laptop, go to the library to print out my resume and my schedule, go to see Michael, get the job, come back, hang out with Amber for ten minutes, go get help for CS271, go get lunch, study for Art115, go to class, take a test, ipod dies, draw the rest of the time, go to tutoring (find out there is no CS tutor available), go to my parents house, get help from dad :) eat dinner, clean my car, and come back home and here I am!!

I have been inhaling coffee like there’s no tomorrow too! So blah xO

Nine Little Litter Bugs :3

Posted by Blythe on October 11, 2008 @ 12:09 am

Today was moderate. It could have been better.

I woke up late. It is interesting and irrelevant but I had a nice dream. I had a dream I was Link and what was interesting was ever since I started this color art class, I noticed that I have only had one dream that was in color that I could remember in my life. The other ones were in black and white. So I have been dreaming in color lately, and it was wonderful.

So I slept through my alarm for a half hour, dreaming I was link with my green outfit chasing a chicken around this bridge across a beautiful sunset.

I am insane.

Clearly I ended up to class late. But it was not because of my dream. I was trying to do something with my hair and kept failing. So I left late, got some coffee, and did not care. I did not go to my second class because I’m a slob. We are learning how to divide in binary, and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical Engineering) decided on a standard for 32bit machines that you will subtract the number 127 from the resulting number in binary in order to get it into two’s compliment. I don’t know why. A whole page on it can be found here but it was too uninteresting for me to read. So I just did not want to go to hear about it. I came home and started writing. I got an idea for a fun story I will have to post it up if I get a few chapters done. It is about androids who were made to assassinate. Nine of them :3 So they are called Nine Little Litter Bugs because of how much they kill :3 Sounds lovely eh? That’s not the entire story clearly. That is really far from any part of the story, but it was the main jist of it.

I went to work. They asked me to stay later. I said no because I’m a bitch. I went to mommy’s and got some smoothie mix so I will make that here in a bit :D I still have not posted up anything new because I have not booted up my laptop once today. I will probably do that soon since I am procrastinating on homework!

Jya~ne!

Moving

Posted by Blythe on October 10, 2008 @ 3:39 am

Sorry for not posting lately! Busy with school =) but I love my classes so far.

I email people now and then. Tell me if you want to be added to the list x3 I’ll have to go check out my friends’ sites here soon! Sorry!

Now for some updates on life!
For those who don’t know, I am moving. :) I can’t afford the rent here anymore, even though it is only $300. Driving to Keizer all the time for work is killing me on gas! I don’t want to move. I love my little apartment. I love the littleness. I am really not American because I really want a one bedroom itty bitty yellow house and three cats and a bunny and a pig and a goat. Anyway! My uncle is going to let me stay in his empty house until 2010 when Melissa might go to school here. I hope the house will be just as cute xP

I am also trying to get a job in town. I went and talked to a guy named Michael who has some database work done in Oracle. I don’t know Oracle though, I have only dealt with MySQL. So he wants to see my stuff and maybe set up times to train this next week. I doubt I’ll get it, seeing as how I have not taken the database class and I have no experience other than websites. But it’s worth a try because I have gotten two jobs by mistake. So today I just finished installing Apache 4/PHP 5/MySQL 4 on my laptop so I can experiment with database stuff. It all took a lot longer than it should have. I was editing the wrong php.ini file and the wrong lines and everything! It was one of those stupid things like using the -> pointers in c++ instead of . in Java. Also, when reading information from MySQL, it is practical to put it into a nice little array. I was editing wrong files and attacking arrays all wrong.

For any kinds of computer nerds (I was happy! My teacher called me a nerd for once xD) Here is how I was tackling arrays:

To view arrays in PHP, you have to use print_r($array) instead of print. And it was comming out like
Array(name[0] => Tina, age[0] => 21, gender [0] => female)
It is really useless like that when trying to display a page very nicely so that everyone can read it like normal, it would be nice to use when editing databases and such though. So I kept trying to use str_replace to take out the numbers, field names, and arrows, but ran into a few problems. Then I realised that if I just made a while loop with a counter until it goes null and display the actual fields of that counter.

(for those who don’t know, in php you don’t have to define the variable type :3)
$i = 0;
while($array[i] !== null)
{
print($array[i]);
$i++;
}
It comes out like

Tina 21 Female

And I can put it into a nice table as well :3

I also just recently finished a search for function. Now all I am going to do is add a create function and I don’t know what else he wants me to show him. Just some work I guess I don’t know if it will be relevant, but whatever :3

I went to counseling today. I don’t want to repeat anything in here that I told him. They will evaluate the answers I said to his questions and sign me up for a counselor that is fit for me. I am glad I am going through this during this term. Apparently individual appointments are $30 each, so the fact that our insurance is about $100 and we get five free visits is awesome. I don’t know how good they are but at least it is a start. And they have a therapist to assign medications or get immediate help from (such as if I am about to commit suicide), I can take full blown tests to find out if I am bi polar or not, other kinds of mental tests, anything. That is not included in the fee but at least it’s available. :3

That is about all. I’ll put up my new MySQL scripts tomorrow. Buhbye :3

Surprise!!

Posted by Blythe on September 25, 2008 @ 10:39 pm

About an hour after my post, things started cheering up. I am so thrilled :)

I took a shower and boy I took a good relaxing one. And cleaned myself up and made myself all purdy. Almost a year ago Rob bought me these white knee-high socks with laces in the back that tie in a bow, but I don’t really like white, but I’ve been trying to think what I can wear them with because I begged him to buy them for me. Well, I put on my black fishnet and the white socks and pushed them towards the bottom of my ankle instead of wearing them up to my knees. They curved over my shoes a little and the bows in the back stuck out perfectly. I thought it looked cute, very lolita though, and I went outside and was worried that everyone would laugh at me. But I had two people comment on them so I felt great :)

Amber called me to go to the library with her, I managed to run into her at the IT building and we went and got some coffee. It turned out to be beautiful outside despite the morning! Also we were able to apply our financial aid a whole day early because of some error in the system xP and I got $20 than I thought I would. I then told her about my blender and she came back and checked it out. She said she honestly would’ve gotten the one for $20 because it was better quality and name brand and such. So I got in the car and drove to WalMart again and traded it in, and also grabbed a few more things at the dollar store. I grabbed these totally cute brown socks with flowers on them n__n and some Texas Toast and Italian Ice :D I also bought a kitty magnet it was too cute and I am starting a collection anyway.

We came back and went to Waremart and she had given me a few bucks for gas so I bought some beef and stroganoff and made that with my Texas Toast and it is delightful :) I am now sitting on my PC, clearly, feeling much happier, much better, and full and I am ready to watch more anime and play more games :) I had the most excellent day that I have had this week. Third day’s a charm right? :)

[ edit: ] Oh Yes!! I also forgot to mention, this is the original reason I wanted to post!! I got .mkv files to play in Winamp. I lurvs it :) The link is here. I happen to have an icon at the bottom of my taskbar called Haali Media Splitter that gives me the option to put subtitles on, where from, and etc. I think I just got lucky though :) Also I used this code so that I can Enqueue the files in Winamp as well.
“C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe” /ADD “%1″
Yup yup. [ /edit ]
